OK, I now know very well why my editor dislikes Goodreads very much :)
And as some of you know, I love profiling people - using Human Behaviour observation (plus Game Theory). Here is what I gathered from those readers who don't like Memory and Destiny.
1. They never enjoy Broadway shows (on in this case, West End, Phantom of the Opera).
Tunjuk jari, siapa yang belum pernah nonton Broadway show, tapi tetap suka Phantom of the Opera (atau semacamnya)? Surprisingly, banyak loh di antara pembaca setia saya :) Love you, girls and boys! Termasuk adik dan teman-teman adik yang masih SMP-SMA... The liking or interest for some heavy artistic show is either you have it or you don't. Sama kayak I truly hate Chinese opera karena bising banget di kupingku (pardon me, bisa dikeclak om yang suka banget opera Peking).
Saya udah bermain dengan konsep hiburan mahal selain Broadway show, yakni Symphony Orchestra dalam Schoolaholic Princess 3 - you can see the table of content, formatnya orkes simfoni beneran ;)
FYI, Yunisa itu termasuk penggila seni teater (as in Broadway type) + symphony orchestra. Jadi pas kerja di Silicon Valley sebulan, tiap weekend juga bela-belain naik kereta 3 jam (pp 6 jam) ke San Fransisco buat nonton show, dan terus kecewa karena SF kalah jauh sama NYC. Excuse moi, mahal emang, capek emang, tapi income sebulan itu lebih dari cukup buat hiburan pribadi biar tetap waras tanpa physical friend seorang pun di Cupertino :) My parents always say, OK, you work hard, but be sure that you stay healthy so that you can always make more money than what you can spend.
My international exposure, together with all of my sisters make us acquire "expensive taste of art" that our parents never had in their childhood. OK, sebenarnya setelah beberapa kali mengajak ortu ke tempat main (yang mahal kalau dirupiahkan, kita menyimpulkan, ortu sebenarnya juga suka kok hahaha).
2. Those who hate Memory and Destiny:
a) do not master English "that" well; and/or
b) have no exposure of living in style and/or overseas
c) and unfortunately, hate people who have privilege to those things
Aiyah, mau gimana lagi, namanya juga beda exposure :)
Kesimpulan: sebenarnya nggak suka MD itu termasuk karena sirik ya?
Abis ada juga yang ngaku karena dia nggak bisa jadi editor di GPU? Oh my God. My beloved editor, you are absolutely right!

Hai Yunisa, saya belom baca bukunya, cuma baru baca review orang2 di sini, sama baca blog memory and destiny aja. Jadi nggak mau komentar tentang bukunya karena nggak tau mau bilang apa.
Tapi, saya mau njawab tantangannya di blog itu: "what can I say to give a positive contribution to this book / writer / process?" -- that was a direct quote, btw.

Well, my dear, dear misguided missy,
a) in your blog, you wrote " I don't give a damn to those people who are (obviously) dislike me for their own reasons" -- why, yes! you made a grammatical error!! THE END OF THE WORLD MUST BE NEAR! Before you tell people that their English is not THAT great, google for some English Courses near you.
b) people who live "in style & overseas" don't necessarily think like you. If someone sends me your book, it doesn't mean I'm not gonna trash it. ALSO, geography does not define intelligence and/or taste.
c) while I can't speak for everyone else, since I'm living abroad, I can totally say that for someone who incessantly boasts about being overseas, you certainly don't bother to adapt the open-mindedness of the Western culture. If you don't like hearing what other people have to say, why bother writing a book? You said you don't give a damn, yet there you are writing lengthy responses in your blog, also replying comments over here. So while you soak up the fact that you DO care, say hello to the truth in other people's opinions.
You know what they say-- if you can't handle the heat, stay out of the kitchen.
That is all.
Now would somebody send me the book already!?
